Indeed, the very richness of Anne's diary may be due, in part, to the circumstances of its composition. Had she had a girlfriend with whom to share her secrets, she might have written less wholeheartedly in her diary. Had she had a circle of friends and teachers at school, some of the feelings toward her parents would have been displaced and attenuated.
